Silversea Silver Whisper embarks on seven-continent world cruise

Silversea’s Silver Whisper set sail on a first-of-its-kind 140-day world cruise that will include stops at 62 destinations in 32 countries on seven continents, including the Antarctic Peninsula.

The Legends of Cruising 2020 sailing departed from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on 6 January 2020 and is due to complete its journey in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, on 25 May 2020.

To mark the occasion, Silversea put on a special reception at The Breakers resort in Palm Beach, with Silversea executives including the cruise line’s president and CEO, Roberto Martinoli.

“It was an honour to bid our guests bon voyage ahead of our World Cruise 2020,” said Martinoli. “Legends of Cruising is our most immersive world cruise to date, offering an unprecedented range of experiences. From Fort Lauderdale to Amsterdam, Antarctica to Aqaba, the variety of destinations discovered by our guests will showcase the authentic beauty of the world like never before. Our guests’ enthusiasm for the voyage has been reflected in the exceptionally strong booking numbers.”

Among the array of enhancements planned for the Legends of Cruising World Cruise 2020 is a new cocktail programme, which will immerse guests in sailed destinations through regional drinks and local ingredients, as well as the fascinating stories behind each. Serving as a preview of Silversea’s new SALT (sea and land taste) destination-inspired culinary programme, which will be inaugurated with the launch of Silver Moon in August 2020, the new cocktail offering will comprise 62 cocktails. Guests will also enjoy cocktail masterclasses, as they learn to mix their own beverages, and will sample cocktail pairings to discover new flavours. They will also receive a gift box containing a book full of recipes and the stories behind all featured cocktails.

Silversea Cruises has introduced a collection of 33 bespoke shore experiences for 2020, known as the World Cruise Collection. Travellers can embark on a musical and culinary journey in San Juan, Puerto Rico; attend a private performance of a folkloric ballet troupe in Salvador da Bahia, Brazil; delve into the local culture with an anthropologist in Moorea, French Polynesia; savour a four-course lunch prepared by a celebrity chef in Singapore; enjoy a candlelight dinner under the stars in the Red Sea desert; see Caravaggio’s masterpieces in Rome, Italy; and tour the Royal Yacht Britannia in Edinburgh, UK, with the last-serving admiral, among other experiences.

Also, for the first time on a Silversea world cruise, travellers will benefit from zodiac activities, supervised by the cruise line’s expedition team. In the Antarctic Peninsula, Silversea’s expedition team members will lead zodiac tours on which guests are likely to witness penguins, seals and other animals in their natural environment, as well as large icebergs, before landing at designating landing spots for onshore discovery.

Guests travelling in Silver Whisper ocean-view suites will have personalised butler service; a 24-hour in-suite dining service; a bottle of champagne upon arrival and a drinks bar, stocked with guests’ preferred beverages; fine dining including complimentary caviar on demand, canapés and a rich offering of seafood and steak; and an array of other inclusive amenities.
