Royal Caribbean has hired Dennis the Menace to promote its Allure of the Seas, which will set sail in Summer 2020 following a US$165m (€150m) makeover.
The cruise line has commissioned a special Beano comic strip, Royal Caribbeano, which follows the adventures of Dennis the Menace, his side-kick Gnasher, and his family Minnie, Bea, Mum and Dad as the first guests on board the newly refreshed Royal Caribbean ship.
The bespoke comic strip shows the family opting for a cruise after being disappointed in a campsite in Barcelona. Managing director Ben Bouldin features in the strip, inviting the family to board via the VVIP Fast Track.
The Menaces then explore the ship’s entertainment features including glow-in-the-dark laser tag, spotlight karaoke, Splashaway Bay, and The Perfect Storm and Ultimate Abyss waterslides.
Royal Caribbean has also commissioned a special Dennis the Menace colouring book, based on the bespoke comic strip, which be included in a Family Pack given to children ahead of their Royal Caribbean holiday. These packs will be delivered to Royal Caribbean trade partners from December 2020.
“With all new thrills and chills, Allure of the Seas will offer the ultimate family-fun adventure when she sails from Barcelona next summer, so we wanted Britain’s most iconic family to test out everything Allure of the Seas has to offer, to show that even the Menaces can enjoy spending quality family time together – and apart – on a Royal Caribbean holiday,” said Ben Bouldin, associate vice president and managing director, UK & Ireland, Royal Caribbean. “We look forward to distributing the new family packs to our trade partners and hope the Beano comic strip captures the imagination of guests and our valued agents.”
Allure of the Seas will set sail from Barcelona, on seven-night western Mediterranean itineraries, starting from May 2020.
